SANA’A, Oct. 25 — New clashes broke out between Ansar Al-Sharia militants, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's franchise in Yemen, and military forces in Abyan on Saturday. Government warplanes intensified their air raids in pursuit of Ansar Al-Sharia affiliates. In retaliation, militants carried out several suicide bombings targeting military sites.

About 55 Somali refugees who have no identification documents were arrested in an entrance of the port city of Aden on Saturday, security sources affirmed.
The sources said the Somali refugees who included women and children were arrested while they were coming from Shabwah governorate in which Al-Qaeda militants are active. Foreigners including Somalis were frequently arrested while fighting to the side of Al-Qaeda in Shabwa and Abyan.

16. 250 Somali students off to Turkey for further studies

Some 250 Somali students have left for further studies in Turkey under a scholarship programme.
The students left Mogadishu on Sunday for Istanbul and came from different parts of Somalia, with most of them having qualified after being vetted online.
The Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Dr Koni Torun, saw the students off and disclosed that the scholarship holders would be attending various universities.

Tanzania will have no sympathy for illegal immigrants from the Horn of Africa, even if caught using the country only as a transit route, a minister said.
The minister for East African Cooperation, Mr Samuel Sitta, said on Monday during a visit to the Holili border post in the north that Tanzania was bound by international obligations not to offer passage for illegal migrants.

Hundreds of Sudanese citizens living in Israel on Sunday held a protest against plans by Interior minister Eli Yishai to imprison and expel some 15,000 asylum seekers. Demonstrators held signs reading; "We are refugees, not infiltrators, we’re all human beings -- where is the Jewish morality?" and; "We're not criminals -- why are we being put in jail?" The demonstrators called on the United Nations' Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to intercede on their behalf.

20. South Sudan growing xenophobia to Kenyans worrying

A community development consultant based in South Sudan in a story published in the widely-circulating Sunday Nation this week intimated that Kenyans seeking investment opportunities or jobs in that country have abused the hospitality accorded to them, resulting in several killings.
The consultant suggested several Kenyans are in South Sudan illegally and lacked the necessary permits, leading to their mistreatment and in a number of instances, eventual murder.
21. Horn of Africa to benefit from $38million European Commission boost

An estimated one million people in Ethiopia and Somalia are expected to benefit from the $38 million increase in aid from the European Commission, officials said.
According to a press statement, the money from the Commission's Emergency Aid Reserve (EAR), will mainly be used in the provision of humanitarian assistance and to help build the resilience of the vulnerable communities from future disasters.

23. 55 migrants arrested near Israeli border

Fifty-five migrants from three different groups were arrested while trying to illegally enter Israel through the Egyptian border, a security source said. The source said a police patrol spotted 13 migrants near the international mark No. 50 in central Sinai, 26 near the international mark No. 80, and 16 near mark No. 17. All were arrested and are being detained in Arish Prison.

24. Anti-migrant sentiment increasing

JOHANNESBURG, 10 October 2012 (IRIN) - Distrust of foreigners has increased in South Africa in the four years since a wave of xenophobic violence swept the country. Some 67 percent of South Africans say they do not trust foreigners at all, compared to 60 percent in 2008, survey findings released this week revealed.
